அவலூர்பேட்டை என்ற நகரம் விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள மேல்மலையனூர் தாலுகாவில் அமைந்துள்ளது.திருவண்ணாமலை ,மேல்மலையனூர், சேத்துப்பட்டு ஆகிய முக்கிய நகரங்களை இணைக்கும் ஒரு வழித்தடமாக விளங்குவதால் இங்கு வர்த்தகம், சந்தை ஆகியவை தழைத்தோங்கி வளர்ந்து ஒரு வியாபார மையமாக செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது .
நான் இணையதளத்தில் விழுப்புரம் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள சமண பாரம்பரிய சின்னங்களை ஆராயும்போது அவலூர்பேட்டை குன்று என்ற ஆயிரம் வருடங்களுக்கு மேல் பழமையான சமண வாழ்விடத்தை பற்றி அறிந்தேன். அங்கு 24வது தீர்த்தங்கரரான மகாவீரர் பாறை புடைப்பு சிற்பமாக வடிக்கப் பட்டுள்ளார் .
இந்த சமண வாழ்விடத்தின் மீது ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு அதனை தேடி அவலூர்பேட்டை க்கு சென்றேன். நகரை அடைந்த உடன் வழியில் சந்தித்த முதியவரின் வழிகாட்டுதலைப் பின்பற்றி அவலூர்பேட்டை குன்றை நோக்கி சென்றேன்.
போகும் வழியில்
பெத்தான்குளம் என்ற குளத்தை அடைந்தேன். பழமையான இந்த குளத்தின் நடுவில் பாழடைந்த மண்டபம் இருந்தது. குளத்தை ஒட்டிய யாதவர் தெருவில் உள்ள ஒரு வீட்டு வளாகத்தை கடந்து , உரிமையாளரிடம் ஒப்புதல் பெற்று அவலூர்பேட்டை குன்றை அடைந்தேன்.
குன்று வளாகத்தில் ஆங்காங்கே பெரிய பாறைகள் காணப்பட்டன. ஒரு பாறையில் அரித்த நிலையில் மகாவீரரின் புடைப்பு சிற்பம் காணப்பட்டது.அவர் தியான நிலையில் பீடத்தின் மேல் அமர்ந்து ,தலைக்குமேல்
முக்குடையும் , இருபுறமும் பணியாளர்களின் துணையோடு சித்தரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்.
வளாகத்தில் கல் படுக்கைகள் ஏதும் தென்படவில்லை.
இந்த வளாகத்தின் புனிதத்தன்மையை அறியாத மக்கள் பாறைகளுக்கிடையே வேலி அமைத்து ஆட்டுத் தொழுவமாக பயன்படுத்தி வருவது எனக்கு மிகுந்த வேதனை அளித்தது. வேலியைத் தாண்டி வளாகத்துக்குள் நுழைந்த தருணம் , ஆடுகள் என்னைப் பார்த்தவுடன் மிரண்டு சிதறி ஓடிய காட்சிகள் , என்னால் மறக்க முடியவில்லை. வளாகத்தில் எங்கு பார்த்தாலும் ஆட்டு சாணம் மற்றும் சிறுநீர் ஊரி தரை ஈரப்பதத்துடன் காட்சியளித்தது. காற்றில் சிறுநீரின் வாசன் கலந்து துர் நாற்றம் வீசியது. இதனை எல்லாம் பொருட்படுத்தாமல் இந்த இடத்தை முழுமையாக பார்வையிட்டு, புகைப்படங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு உரிமையாளருக்கு நன்றி தெரிவித்து கனத்த இதயத்துடன் விடை பெற்றேன்.
இந்த சமண வாழ்விடத்தின் மீது ஈர்க்கப்பட்டு அதனை தேடி அவலூர்பேட்டை க்கு சென்றேன். நகரை அடைந்த உடன் வழியில் சந்தித்த முதியவரின் வழிகாட்டுதலைப் பின்பற்றி அவலூர்பேட்டை குன்றை நோக்கி சென்றேன்.

அரசாங்கம் இங்கு உள்ள ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளை அகற்றி இந்த இடத்தை கையகப்படுத்தி இதனை சமண பாரம்பரிய சின்னமாக பாதுகாத்து , புனிதத்தன்மையை மீண்டும் நிலைநாட்ட வேண்டும் என்பது என்னுடைய கோரிக்கை.

NEGLECTED ANCIENT DIGAMBARA JAIN SITE
AVALURPET KUNDRU,GOONDU PARAI
Avalurpet is a town in Melmalayanur taluk of Villupuram district .Its strategic location between Tiruvannamalai ,Melmalaiyanur and Chetpet has made this en route town a flourishing market and trade center. The purpose of my visit to this town is not for its commercial importance but to visit Avalurpet kundru which is a neglected Digambara Jain site located near an ancient tank called Bethakulam having a small dilapidated mandap at the center . The place is known as Goonduparai by the locals.Coursing through the Yadhavar street around the tank I had to traverse a private property , obtaining permission from the owners to reach the Jain site.There are many huge boulders in the premises with one particular boulder bearing an eroded but beautiful bas relief of the 24th Thrinthankarar Mahavira in meditative pose sitting on a pedam with fan bearers on either sides and head surmounted by triple umbrella.
The nearby inhabitants are oblivious of the importance and sanctity of this place. They are using the site as a pen for securing their goats by fencing the gap between the boulders.
The whole place is in shambles reeking with the smell of animal urine and excreta.
As i traversed the temporary fencing I was welcomed by the bleating of goats which scampered to the corners on seeing me. My eyes were searching for the bas relief of the Thrinthankarar which appeared on a boulder. I couldn't find any Jain beds or inscriptions in the site.
I am extremely pained to be a silent witness to this very important Jain site neglected by the public and unprotected by the government deteriorating day by day,losing its sanctity by the activities of the ignorant nearby inhabitants.
